About Osteopathy #01

Osteopathy - " Committed to Quality Healthcare "

What is Osteopathy ?
Osteopathy was developed over 100 years ago by a Union Doctor in the American Civil War called Andrew Still. He had always cleared his own headaches by cracking his neck and he reasoned that the spine was the source of good health, so rather than offer drugs, he began to investigate the manipulation of the joints which he believed would release the body's abilities to heal itself.

Osteopathy focuses on the diagnosis, treatment, prevention and rehabilitation primarily of musculoskeletal disorders ( Muscle, bone and joints )

Using many diagnostic procedures applied in conventional medical assessment, osteopaths seek to restore optimal functioning of the body and assist in its intrinsic ability to heal.

Following a detailed case history and examination, treatment is based on mobilising and manipulative techniques, (if apprpropriate) reinforced by guidance on diet, Latest electrotherapy (ultrasound and interferential) & laser / laser therapy, lifestyle combined with exercise.

Treatment Goals of Osteopathy

  • Promotes & facilitates tissue healing

  • Relieves pain & prevents recurrence of symptoms
  • Increase pain free range of movement ( mobility )
  • To restore normal strength & stability to the surrounding joint
  • Rehabilitative exercise and restoration of function
